Introducing Lightbits v3.10.1 Software-Defined Storage: Enhanced Reliability and Resiliency

We are excited to announce the release of Lightbits v3.10.1 software-defined storage. This update enhances the reliability and resiliency of our platform, ensuring that your storage infrastructure remains robust and dependable. Here are some of the highlights of the things that were added and improved in this version.

This release introduces several key updates to our software, aimed at strengthening system reliability:

  • Enhanced Server Maintenance Operations: The ‘disable’ server command now allows an override of the permanent failure threshold timeout, allowing granular control over server maintenance activities.
For example, the following command will prevent volume rebalancing during server maintenance for a 12-hour period

  • Metadata RAM Utilization: The API now exposes metadata RAM utilization, providing deeper insights into resource management and contributing to more resilient operations.

  • Auto Revive Support: Enhanced auto revive logic now attempts a graceful shutdown of the backend service when triggered, contributing to a more resilient recovery process
  • New Metrics: Added QoS Delay metrics (Read/Write) to the Front-End (FE) and monitoring stack, now visible in the Grafana Volume Performance dashboard

  • Platform Support: This release marks the end of CentOS 7 support. Lightbits will continue to support Alma, Redhat, and Rocky, allowing us to concentrate on providing a more secure and resilient environment for our users. Migration from CentOS 7 to these supported systems in an undisruptive manner is possible.
Ubuntu is another important distribution we’re adding support for. It’s on our roadmap and expected to be available soon.
  • Data Eviction: We have made further enhancements to the data eviction capability during this development cycle. Data eviction is currently at the “Tech Preview” stage. We encourage you to test it and share your feedback with us. You can read more about this capability and how to use it over here.
  • Bug Fixes and Improvements: Alongside the enhancements highlighted earlier, this release also addresses several bug fixes and introduces additional improvements. For a comprehensive overview of all updates, please refer to the release notes available here.

Multi-cluster Management GUI  – Photon Tech Preview Coming Soon

We’re thrilled to share that our development efforts have continued, and we’re making great progress with Photon, our new management GUI for operating, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining Lightbits software-defined storage clusters. We’ve shared an early release of Photon with a limited number of clients.

Photon offers a user-friendly interface that simplifies the management of your Lightbits infrastructure, providing intuitive controls and comprehensive visibility into cluster operations. We’re excited to announce that we’re gearing up to release Photon as a tech preview very soon!
