Lightbits Labs Appoints Abel Gordon as Chief Technology Officer

Industry veteran formerly with IBM Research and Stratoscale is poised to deliver state-of-the-art cloud storage solutions.

SAN JOSE, Calif., February 6, 2024 – Lightbits®, an innovator of disruptive data storage technology that enables cost-efficient cloud infrastructure for performance-sensitive workloads, today announced the appointment of Abel Gordon as the company’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO). His deep understanding of storage technologies aligns seamlessly with Lightbits Labs’ commitment to delivering high-performance, scalable, and efficient data platform solutions for modern cloud-based workloads.

Abel Gordon has served Lightbits Labs as the Chief System Architect since 2016 and has played a key role in architecting a low-latency clustered block storage solution based on the NVMe® over TCP protocol. Before joining Lightbits labs, Abel led the Kernel and Networking team of Stratoscale’s hyper-converged private cloud solution. Abel also worked at IBM Research, where he led the machine and I/O virtualization team and contributed new features to the KVM hypervisor. He brings to his new role a strong background in software development that enables the modernization of data platforms to support AI/ML, big data, and analytics workloads, including deep experience gleaned in 20-plus years spent focusing on researching, designing and building systems in industries that include datacenter and cloud infrastructure. He has published more than 50 papers and patents and won numerous awards for his work.

“Abel’s deep understanding of our business, expertise, and customer intimacy makes him well qualified to assume the role of CTO. His technology vision aligns perfectly with our mission, ” added Eran Kirzner, Co-Founder and CEO at Lightbits Labs. “With a reputation for fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration, he will undoubtedly enhance our ability to innovate and deliver differentiated, modern cloud storage solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers.”

As CTO, Gordon will be pivotal in steering the technological vision of Lightbits Labs, driving innovation, and leading the development of state-of-the-art storage solutions. As a key member of the leadership team, Abel will be responsible for the alignment of the technology vision and business strategies as well as architecting a roadmap that keeps pace with customer demand for high-performance cloud storage solutions. His technology prowess has made a big impact already. He was instrumental in steering the strategic technology alliance with Microsoft, resulting in the Lightbits on Azure Managed Application marketplace offering for Azure VMware Solution (AVS), Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), and Oracle on Azure. The product introduction removes the final barrier for enterprises migrating their workloads to the public cloud, by delivering the most scalable, highest-performance storage on Azure with inherent cost efficiencies for storage-intensive workloads at scale.

Gordon’s appointment comes at a pivotal period of growth for Lightbits Labs as the company continues to expand its market presence and address the increasing demand for innovative cloud storage solutions. His strategic leadership will be instrumental in guiding the development of products that meet the evolving needs of enterprises navigating their cloud-first initiatives.
